Alexander McQueen heads to Target
That’s right, Alexander McQueen will be designing a clothing line that will be for sale in Target Stores. McQueen who says he can’t work with any restraints or boundaries, says the collection he designed for Target is 100% him, no holds barred. McQueen’s collection for Target will launch in March 09′.
McQueen’s clothing will be priced under $129.99 in all 1,658 Target stores. That’s because McQueen knows what it’s like when money is tight. McQueen and Target’s goal is to attract the 18- to 34-year-old consumer. The collection has a muted color palette of black, white, gray and tan with accents of cobalt blue and bright pink. Studs and mesh give items an edge. There are studded jeans, shorts and denim jackets with asymmetrical closures, short tuxedo jackets and matching shorts, dresses in a blue and white painterly fabric, a one-shoulder dress in a gray-and-black zigzag pattern with a thick black belt, and a T-shirt with the image of Liela Moss. The idea of spreading his name was very appealing, since his company doesn’t have that much recognition in the [U.S.].
“I was brought up on this,” said McQueen, the son of a London taxi driver. “I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth.”
With today’s economy and the tight budget’s of the U.S. citizen, I think this is a brilliant idea. You can hop in your car, head down to target and buy designer clothes made by Alexander McQueen, you can’t beat that. I mean how can you argue about going to Target to purchase some of the McQueen line vs. spending thousands of dollars on one of McQueen’s gowns. Fashion and style have never been about how much you spend. [WWD]
