How to Walk in High Heels and Pumps

Do you have a pair of designer shoes that you have been dying to wear, but you haven’t worn high heels or pumps before.   Well, don’t be scared because I have you covered.  I have a few tips and a video that will give you the courage and advice you need so you can strut your stuff in your new pair of women’s high heels like you’re a professional runway model.  Even if you are experienced at wearing high heels you may find a few things you did not know or a couple of things you want to touch up on.  Also stay tuned for future updates with more tips and videos.  Enjoy!

1.  You should first start trying to walk in lower heels, a 2-3 inch heel is a good start.  After walking around the house for a while getting some practice you can move up to a 4-5 inch heel if you feel comfortable.  You will notice that by adding just one inch to your heel, the difficulty level becomes very noticeable.  High heel shoes with a 5 inch heel are not meant to be worn for long periods of time and may cause sore feet.  You will more than likely be able to wear a taller heel if your feet are larger.

2.  High heels and platform pumps that have a wider heel are easier to walk in.  Wedge designer shoes that have a wider base are a lot less likely to get caught in a crack or other objects so they are easier to walk in also.  I know the shoes with the super tall spike heel are very tempting but just remember those are the hardest to walk in so get plenty of experience before attempting, I don’t want you to twist an ankle or hurt yourself.  Pointy toe shoes are not as comfortable as rounded toe or open toe designer shoes.

3.  Shoes with ankle straps, t-straps, or other types of straps are the easiest to walk in because they help keep the shoe from falling off.  You don’t want to lose that new designer shoe.  If you are new to wearing high heels shoes, remember that high heeled mules are a lot more difficult to keep on your feet.

4.  Make sure you buy a pair of comfortable high heel shoes that fit well.  You don’t want them to loose or to tight.  If they are too loose you will have a problem keeping your high heels on your feet.  If they are too tight the foot pain will be unbearable and you will begging for a couple of foot massages throughout the day.  It is probably best to have them just a little loose and if you need to you can visit your local grocery store and pick up some foot cushions.

5.  When you decide to take your first stroll out of the house in your pair of new designer high heel shoes. BE CAREFUL!  You need to pay attention to all walking surfaces.  Slippery, wet or rainy surfaces, sewer grates, shaggy thick rugs, and stairs must all be watched out for.  On soft or sandy surfaces you want to walk on the balls of your feet so your heels don’t sink.  Always use the handrails when wearing high heels and using stairs, make sure your foot is completely flat on the entire stair, even if this meanings stepping sideways.  Do what it takes so you don’t take a tumble.

6.  Swinging your arms while walking in high heels will help you have a more graceful appearance and it will also help with your balance.

7.  Taking your high heels off ever so often or at least taking time to bend and flex your ankles will help keep them from getting sore if you are wearing your high heels for a long period of time.

8.  If it is hard for you to stand up straight while wearing your high heels shoes without bending your knees, it’s probably a good idea to go down at least a half an inch in heel height.  You will find this makes a world of difference in comfort and stability.

9.  If you have high heel shoes with a broken heel or one that’s on its way out, its probably a safe bet not to even wear them. Why run the risk of injuring yourself? Just grab your second favorite pair of heels and drop the damaged pair off at your local cobbler.

10.  Its not healthy for your feet to wear high heel shoes everyday.  Give your feet some time to recoup and rest.  At Least vary the height of the heels if you must insist on wearing designer high heel shoes every day.
