Saving on designer shoes and fashion this holiday season

Halloween has come, and thanksgiving is right around the corner.  A Lot of people are focusing on getting prepared for the holiday season and all of the joyous things to come and celebrate.  From gathering with friends and family around some good ol’turkey to the first snowball fight when the first snow arrives, traditional activities will begin all over again with the same if not more excitement.  There is one tradition that may bring more fear than excitement this season and that is gift giving and holiday spending.

With the shape the economy is in, economist and retailers are expecting a significant reduction in spending this holiday season.  Facing the reality of job security, financial concerns, rising gas and food prices, and a lack of confidence in the economy, many shoppers will be pinching the pennies.

Fortunately for you I am here again to save the day and turn that scrooge attitude around.  There are plenty of ways a smart shopper can save money and not get themselves in a bind to ensure this holiday season remains the same as ones in the past.

Here area few easy and simple ways to save money this holiday season without having to cut back on giving.

  • Be thrifty

Yes, its to good to be true, but it is true.  You can purchase top of the line items without paying top of the line prices.  Visit your local consignment shops and thrift stores to pick up gifts on your list.  Bargainistas can find everything from designer clothes and designer shoes to home appliances and furniture, all at highly discounted prices.   Sometimes these items can be purchased brand new.

  • It pays to pay attention

If it seems to good to be true, sometimes it is.  Just because it seems like a deal doesn’t mean it is.  Make good use of retailer coupons, mark downs, and in-store promotions.  Looking for sale items that are on your list, free shipping, buy 1-get-1 free or “the more you spend the more you save” are great ways to save cash, particularly when buying multiple gifts at once or when buying in bulk.

  • Be a smart shopper

When it comes to purchasing gifts during the holidays that’s just the beginning of things.  Food and other items you may need will begin to add up.  The great thing though is you don’t have to skip on quality to save some money.  Shop smart and choose brands that offer the most bang for the buck. Do you really need name brand red and green napkins when generic ones that are cheaper will cost less and perform the same?

  • Create a list

Creating a list is one of the easiest, yet most underestimated and neglected tool there is when it comes to shopping anytime of the year — create a list and don’t stray from it.   Creating a list helps you accomplish a couple of very important things: it helps you as a shopper stay focused and organized on what you actually need, it also serves as a good tool for staying within your budget.  Take your time upfront to carefully think about who will be on the list and the outcome of your budget when everything is done.  It will make your day out shopping go smooth and a lot less stressful.

I should have put this one first because this is where a lot of deals come up.  Besides avoiding the crazy shopping crowds and checkout lines, shopping online has many benefits.  A Lot of sites have made shopping online easier than ever.   Several shopping sites offer online coupons and you can also just find them floating around the web, this is a good way to save big.  You can shop from the convenience of your home and save money on gifts and gas. That’s a gift in itself.

I hope this helps you save a little money this holiday season and maybe even stay under your budget.
