Economy Takes A Tole on Fashion

16 December 2008 328 views Comments

We all known the economy is in pretty bad shape, the worse it has been in some years.  It’s not only affecting companies and the citizens though.  It also affecting the fashion world.  Betsey Johnson and Carmen Marc Valvo have decided not to put on shows in the Bryant Park Tents during next years Fashion Week in February.  Betsey Johnson has shown in the tents for the past five(5) years, while Carmen Marc Valvo has shown in the tents for the past ten(10) years.

Betsey Johnson didn’t give a specific reason for her cancellation, but Carmen Marc Valvo said a typical show runs them around $150,000 to $200,000 and they are looking for a cheaper way to debut their fall 2009 collection.

While some designer’s like Vera Wang and J. Mendel are toying with the idea of doing something different than a runway show.  DKNY is set on a stage presentation for 2009, and more designer’s could be considering this as well. [nymag]
